Building Wiring Cable – what to look out for:
All Building Wiring Cable as defined in AS/NZS 4417.2 is required to be tested, granted regulatory approval, and marked with the RCM logo to comply with the Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS).
- This symbol is meant to be on the article alongside the Model Number, but it can also be on the packaging if it cannot be put on the cable.
- The cable should also bear the Certificate of Conformity number issued by the Certifying Authority who confirmed the cable is fully compliant with Australian Standards requirements.
A further precautionary check, if you are uncertain about the source of the cable, would be to check the certificate number is listed on the EESS National Database.
If the cable you are proposing to install is not marked as described above or is not listed on the National Database then the cable is not compliant and must not be installed.
If you are uncertain then please contact the ACA for advice.
